The Last Post - your Karma is good

Well, the post I had been writing is nowhere that I can find it - nothing works as it should since we installed the new Windows after our computer problems on holiday.  So that means your good Karma has paid off, because I have decided that I am going to just show you pictures of our time in Frankfurt.

Frankfurt is a beautiful city with lots of modern architecture, lots of green spaces with all manner of sculptures and artwork - well worth a visit or a couple of nights stopover if you are in transit.

Here goes
Sculptures
Modern "David and Goliath"

Busker in old city center - can you figure out how he is suspended there???

Frankfurt "Roemer" Roman center - destroyed during WW II and rebuilt - has a bit of a Disney feel to it, everything is a bit of flat looking

Rathskeller - in German speaking countries, it is the name for a bar or restaurant located in the basement of a city hall (Rathaus) or nearby.   In this case the first city hall was across the street.

Totally unplanned - was not even aware of the name on the building when I was taking the picture -
but I think it says it all, the Contrast between old and new

One afternoon we went to the top of the Main Tower, a 600 foot tall building, that has a viewing terrace where we could get a 360 view of the city and surrounding countryside

Green strip is Ziel Street - a major shopping street in Frankfurt with all the big name stores

Green technology is really big over here

Frankfurt train center in the middle - one of the largest in Europe, with over 1700 trains departing per day and in the background the open area seen is the Frankfurt Airport.

The "Roemer" center - this is also where the famous Christmas markets are held

Eschenheimer Turm - built in about 1400, one of only 3 remaining towers of 60
that once were incorporated the walls surrounding Frankfurt

Ziel Street pedestrian mall - lots of trees, lots of seating

Ziel Galleria - really neat shopping mall in that it is 7 stories high but rather than every floor being on one level, the left side is half a floor higher than than the right side, making 14 floors, creating interesting sight lines and always something interesting around the corner

This picture shows better how the floors are laid out

These trees are are planted in a manner that makes me think they are meant not just to survive, but thrive.

Now a few towers - Frankfurt has the tallest towers in Europe

The Main Tower - this is from where we took all the pictures looking out over the city

The "Red Light" district

And finally the flight home - pictures from the plane of cloud formations, Greenland,
Arctic Ocean, Nunavut and Northwest Territories.

Clouds breaking above cloud cover

North Sea with flows of pack ice

An iceberg from 30,000 feet - imagine how big this beast is!!

The Greenland coast

Two intersecting valleys forming a T

Leaving Greenland,  the Artic Ocean appears

Canada's Artic - terrain is much different than Greenland

You can clearly see the direction the glaciers were travelling as they scored the land

Finally I would just like to thank everyone for your comments and encouragement during my postings.  It was gratifying to see that my postings were accessed over 1700 times.  I enjoyed being able to take you all along on our trip and I hope that it gives everyone a taste of the joy, adventure and wonderment that travel can bring and maybe, just maybe, inspire you to give it a try for yourself.

Bon voyage, until the next time.
