Tourists at last

It's taken a week, but at last we've become tourists. Today we visited the Palazzo Doria Pamphilj. This is a stately home in the center of Rome that was built in the early 1500's. There are over 1000 rooms in the palace, some still lived in today by members of the Pamphilj family, some being rented out and the parts of the palace that we visited which are open to the public. Here are some pictures, a few which I took on the outside and then some interior shots that I gleaned from the Internet, because pictures inside were not allowed.

Hall of statues

Red room - walls are covered in silk material
and almost "wallpapered" with paintings
Ornately decorated ceiling

Painting depicting Mary Magdalene in 18th century garb

Bust of one of the more powerful Pamphilj-Doria women

Pope Innocent X - Giovanni Battista Pamphilj

Lemon tree in courtyard - there were also several
orange trees and kumquat trees

After this visit we were off to see the Church of St Ignacio, the largest Jesuit Church in Rome.  This church was started in the 1600s.  It is not as big as some, but clearly had wealthy patrons as there are some very ornate fittings inside.  There are also several individuals buried within the church which is not unusual foe the churches we have visited here in the past.  Here are a few pictures.
