Easter Weekend in Rome

Well we had lots of plans to take in some of the presentations related to Easter, but when we returned to Rome from our trip, the number of people in Rome had increased dramatically.  Walking down the street was a nightmare.  You were constantly having to dodge people and if a tour group came along, you had 40 people so focused on all trying to stay together and not get lost, that they practically ran you over.  We both found ourselves frustrated and a bit claustrophobic with all the people around.  As an example, on Friday, a trip back home by bus, that should have taken us no more than half an hour, took us over 2 1/2 hours.  Buses were full and passing by stops or didn't come at all.  Routes were being diverted because of road closures.  We were told over 50, 000 people were expected for the Stations of the Cross at the Coliseum that we had planned to attend.  On Sunday morning, we stayed clear of St Peter's, because by 08:30 already over 100,000 people had gathered.  I never did hear how many they finally calculated had attended.  By contrast, till about 12:30 in the morning, our neck of the woods was virtually deserted.  It was rather a nice breather.  After, Sunday things calmed down a bit and everything is now back to normal.

Our weather has changed though.  After having such  a beautiful March, April has returned to it's normal mode of a mix of sunny and overcast days with the temperature being about 5 degrees cooler.  The wind has had a cold edge and it has rained several days.  Oh, well, I guess we couldn't expect perfect weather all the time.
